Docile. First word that most keepers think of when this species comes up. This species is like a miniature version of Grammostola pulchra, but with a small fiery orange tuft of hairs on its abdomen. H. chilense is a rather slow growing species, but they are rather hardy. There are videos of this species wandering around outside of its enclosure without a care in the world. While they do have urticating hairs at their disposal, they may be a last resort.
Coming from the central region of Chile, in the mountains southeast of Talca, H. chilense are fairly easy to care for, and don’t seem to have issues with warm temps. They reach a small full size of about 3 inches, making them a dwarf species. They’ve been given the moniker of “Chilean Flame Tarantula”, given their tuft of fiery orange hairs at the front of their abdomen. This spider is great for those that want a species that will be around for a long time, as well as not take up much room for their enclosure.
