Important disclaimer. Recently itβs been found that hobby specimens of Grammostola pulchra resemble the species Grammostola quirogai more than what was found in the wild as Grammostola pulchra. Donβt let this deter you from keeping this docile, long lived black beauty. Itβs the same large, hardy, velvety black South American spider the hobby knows and loves. Just with a new name that's a bit more difficult to pronounce and spell. While they are slow growing, it's incredible to see a full grown specimen in person.
Native to northwest Uruguay, the hobby Grammostola pulchra (G. quirogai) is a fairly arid species that lives in burrows within the ground. Females of this species can sometimes reach an astonishing 8 inches of legspan, though most specimens may reach a more reasonable 7 inches.
