For those that like the Mexican Red Knee, but want something a bit different. The patterning on the B. auratum lacks the light orange band, instead being black. This may seem like a small difference, but it accentuates the bright reddish orange flame pattern all the more. This small difference makes a big impact, as that orange pops against the black. Like other Brachypelma, B. auratum make good beginner tarantulas. While a tad bit skittish while young, they are easy to care for.
This species is found in the Michoacan state of Mexico. Females can reach a size of 6 inches in legspan, with males getting slightly smaller. This species has the common name of the “Mexican Flame Knee Tarantula” due to the flame pattern on the knee being extra visible in this species. An underrated alternative to the Brachypelma hamorii that isn’t kept as frequently, but a great species for those that like a bit more black to their black and orange species.
