One of the more well known Psalmopoeus, the P. irminia makes a name for itself with the patterning most hobbyists are drawn to. Steeped in solid black, the Venezuelan Suntiger is fitted with fiery orange markings on their legs, as well as thick stripes on the abdomen that get sharper the further down they go. These shy arboreals start out as slings that look quite similar to what they end up as; having near identical markings from a baby to full size.
Native to Venezuela, Guyana, and Brazil, this humid arboreal makes a nice departure in appearance from the others in the genus. Females can reach a size of 5.5 to 6 inches, with males taking on a smaller size. Males also become grey fuzzballs upon sexual maturity, with their legs becoming like the pipe cleaners many of us used in ‘arts and crafts’. This gives them a better look than the usual thinness that most mature male species get. This species has the moniker of “Venezuelan Suntiger”, owing to its radiant orange markings in adulthood. A hobby staple that many keepers swear by, and one you should get if you’re ready to dabble with something with a bit more speed.
