White, black, and yellow. A combination that tells predators: “go away”. This species is from a genus of “ornamental tarantulas”, and it's not an exaggeration. This species, along with others in Poecilotheria, are some of the most intricately patterned tarantulas in the market. On the top, this spider has white and black banding on the legs, a cryptic pattern on the carapace, and a large ornate stripe on the abdomen, along with tiger stripings on the side. On the underside, there is a hazard-like black and yellow striping like those on police tape. On the abdomen’s underside, there is a cream band that separates this species from the others in the hobby.
Endemic to India, this species is a beauty to watch scale the walls of its enclosure. Females can reach a whopping 8 inches, with males lagging behind slightly with a still impressive 6-7 inches. This species has the moniker of “Indian Ornamental Tarantula”, and is one of the more affordable species in the genus of Poecilotheria. These are solely a “watch only” tarantula species. With the clear warnings on their underside, it should be noted that these spiders don't take kindly to things they perceive as threats. However, do not let that deter you from keeping these beauties once you are ready to safely do so.
