A well known species in the hobby, the H. pulchripes is a very colorful baboon spider that accents its golden body with chalky cyan legs that look like theyβre glowing. Unlike most African baboon spiders, H. pulchripes is equipped with a distinct light blue color on their legs, which adds a distinct contrast to an already beautiful golden spider. The starburst pattern and cryptic spots and stripes on the abdomen only add to the beauty when they pounce on prey and stand tall while feeding.
This arid species is found only in southern South Africa. Females can reach 5 inches at full size, but most may reach 4 to 4.5 inches legspan. This species does a bit of webbing, but may utilize a burrow mostly. Despite using a burrow, specimens may stay out in the open often, making it a very eye-catching display spider.
