Quick facts

From
Martinique and St. Lucia
Lifestyle
Burrower
Type
New World

A fairly strange species, this one. A medium sized and reddish brown tarantula from the Caribbean. They inhabit humid burrows, often feeding on insects and other creatures that cross its path or wander into its burrow.

This species shares its habitat with the esteemed Caribena versicolor, both inhabiting Martinique. However, A. maga also inhabits St. Lucia Island as well. This species allegedly gets 5 inches; small for an Acanthoscurria, but this species is still rather obscure and not as well known as Acanthoscurria geniculata. With that in mind, this species is still ripe for discovery, given its slower growth and being seldom kept. If you love burgundy or pink, this may be a species you’ll want to pick up!
