Tired of earthy brown colored tarantulas? Looking for something with a bit more pop? Then THE display tarantula, Caribena versicolor, may be up your alley. A hobby staple, this blue and red arboreal species is a gem in every way possible. Whereas other blue tarantulas start out as a small and bland fuzz ball, C. versicolor begins as a metallic blue and navy spiderling. The color shift into its adult coloration is a wonder to watch progress. They are often first to flee. Though sometimes, they can aim their abdomen and fire waste towards you as a means of defense.
This species is endemic to the Caribbean island, Martinique. They live most of their lives off of the ground, making webbed homes in corners of houses and in holes in trees. Females can reach approximately 6 inches, and males donβt lag behind when it comes to full size. Males donβt miss out on the beautiful cyan and red coloration that the adult females have, either. This species, once the husbandry is understood, is a very easy and rewarding arboreal to keep.
