Black. Orange. Stocky. Always a nice combination for a tarantula. A strongly built highland species that starts out with light orange markings near the ends of their front legs, A. mesomelas is a fairly rare species that has a very pretty soft rusty orange color on their knees and leg joints over solid velvety black.
Abdomegaphobema come from primarily elevated montane regions of Costa Rica. These cloud forests offer a cool temperature for these spiders, which theyβve evolved to withstand and thrive in. If you like your home cooler than room temperature, youβll have little issue with mimicking the temperatures these spiders experience in their habitat. These shy burrowers can be a bit tricky to raise, but very much worth it when they wander about their enclosure with their rusted knees and black velvety bodies. This species can get around 5 inches, possibly 6 inches. There is not as much known about this species as others, as they are still somewhat new and underkept.
