Colorful? Check. Patterns? Check. Arboreal that goes through a number of color changes through its life? Check. This species of arboreal is Avicularia adjacent, and so has a similar body shape to them. Starting out as a fuzzy sling with all kinds of different colors and patterns, it grows into juvenile with lighter colors and more defined patterning. Eventually, this species ends up as a light bronze beauty with blue metallic legs.

This gem of a tarantula is found in eastern Brazil, in the state of Bahia. Females can reach a legspan of up to 5 inches. There are a couple of common names for this species, such as “Amazon Sapphire Tarantula” and “Brazilian Blue Tree Spider”. Both common names are apt descriptions of the spider. This species is a great pick for those that can handle the Avicularia husbandry well and are looking for something with a bit more flair.
