Quick facts
- Adult size
- About 4.5 inches (females)
- From
- Mexico (hobby animals)
- Type
- New World
A common species in the hobby, but one that is still wonderful to keep nonetheless. Moderate webbing, fairly hardy, and patterned up to the proverbial gills, D. pentaloris is a hobby staple. Orange tiger stripes on black for the abdomen, a solid pinkish orange carapace, and faintly blue femurs after a molt, this spider is an affordable display species if there ever was one.
While the Davus pentaloris was found to be a species complex, the hobby species most often seen comes from Mexico, rather than the Guatemala region often given to the species common name, “Guatemalan Tiger Rump Tarantula”. Females of this spider can reach around 4.5 inches, with males sometimes reaching 4 inches. A bit of a confusing species, but don’t let that prevent you from loving this black and orange beauty.
