A species with a hidden secret that becomes most apparent when it’s telling you to back off; the C. natanicharum is famous for its beautiful blues on the undersides of its front legs and on its chelicerae. Thankfully, this species’ electric blue coloration does bleed out onto the sides of their front legs, so the blue will still be visible without bothering the spider into a threat pose. A grey spider that fades into a faintly creamy tan color before a molt, their blue coloration doesn’t seem to fade with an incoming molt. Heavy webbers by nature, this species will make its enclosure a wonderful webbed field, if given enough anchor points. Everything that it considers its domain it will claim with webbing. Watching this species hunt as it scampers across its web with a faint glimpse of its gorgeous blue is what makes this species such an amazing experience to keep.
This species is from southern Thailand, just west of Surat Thani. The females of this species can reach an astonishing 7 inches at full size. Males do get a bit of sexual dimorphism, but they still retain the strong blue coloration on their front legs, albeit slightly darker. This species has the common name of “Electric Blue Earth Tiger”, coming from the species’ old name of “Chilobrachys sp. Electric Blue” before it was described by science in 2023.
