The silver Lamborghini of tarantulas. Fast, pretty, and sleek. Thankfully, unlike Lamborghinis, this spider is affordable. While technically now βAmazonius subcaeruleusβ, the A. burgessi is a fantastic humid arboreal to keep. This spider starts out with faintly orange and black patterning as slings, and grows into a reflective silver beast. With a hint of red on the abdomen hairs, this spider will make a sight like no other when you see it resting on its corkbark slab, or spread out on the enclosure walls.
Amazonius burgessi/subcaeruleus is found in lowland Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. Females can reach between 4.5 to 5 inches in legspan. Due to its silvery nature, this species has been affectionately called the βGhost Tree Spiderβ as its common name. Fitting, is it not? A spider that haunts its enclosure and pounces its food, all the same an amazing spider to watch.
